9 Ways to Become A Successful Business Leader – It’s Time To Wake Up!

It may seem like a cliche but often it’s what you say to yourself that can determine how successful you are in business. If you’re telling yourself, “I can’t do it,” then what do you think is going to happen? But, if you tell yourself, “I can do it!” then you will be able to succeed!

Remember that being a leader is never hard. What you’re doing is showing others what is possible.

So, just how can you be focussed and avoid that opposition that comes from not only within you, but from your friends, family, colleagues, and the media? Here are 9 ways to assist you in becoming that successful business leader that you have always desired to be.

1. Begin thinking with only your own thoughts.

What are you saying to yourself each morning? Is there a pattern emerging? Perhaps these thoughts are the same each day of the week, or every week, or even every month.

Is it you that you are listening to in the morning, or some other voice in your head—spouse, parents, friends, boss? These people could even be haters. And remember, the more haters you listen too, the greater the chances that you’re going to fail in your business endeavor.

Are you lazing in bed on Monday morning and thinking, “I’ll just take a day off because it’s a holiday and everyone else is too”? Perhaps you could be working on your business on this day off. But here you are, listening to other people’s voices instead of your own.

There is this negative voice in your head that can cause you to be a drifter and that prevents you from getting things done.

It’s very important to be aware of your primary thoughts. Where does your mind go? What is its home? This is quite huge. Basically, it’s the emotional home you are living in, from the moment you get up in the morning, to when you close your eyes at night. Does it involve limited emotions, or self-destructive thoughts?

It’s important to learn how to limit the voices inside your head and control them. You need to keep yourself from drifting during the day. It’s tempting to open up the social media accounts to check in. And it’s normal to drift—everyone does it.

But, if you’re a person who isn’t drifting during the day, it may be because you aren’t thinking big enough. You may need to add in some sort of challenge for yourself to prevent stagnation.

Perhaps you wake up and think how you have these difficult tasks. How are you going to do them? And then you start by trying to bribe yourself. I’ll just do half today you say, and I’ll do the rest tomorrow. It’s easy to make bribes with yourself. But are you really getting anything done?

So, the best thoughts are those that have you jumping out of bed in the morning with the thought that you’re going to create something that is bigger than what you are.

Are you constantly reliving emotions that are keeping you in the past? These could be from events in the past. You keep on thinking them, which basically means that you’re stuck in the past. So, where exactly is the emotional home for your thoughts? Where do you put your emotional energy? If you can answer these questions, it can give you a clue as to where you’ll be five years from now, and even a decade from now.

2. What is it you want from life?

Many people simply live life by bouncing from one event to another. They have few goals and take what life dishes out to them. Are you one of them? Perhaps you do have a few goals but you find yourself getting off track a lot.

It begins by having a good look at yourself in the mirror. Are you happy with where you are, or do you want to go places? Perhaps you liked where you were ten years ago but have gotten off track?

To remedy this situation, you must tell yourself who you are. It’s a lot like the GPS, it needs to first know where you are located in order to tell you where to go next. Your life is the same. Tell yourself who you are, and where you’d like to go. What is it that you really want from life?

Sadly, there is opposition out there that wants to break the grips on your life. They want all the money, the fame, and even good health. The opposition can even provide a bit of truth to us. And where we are also provides some truth to us.

To get to where you want to be in life, you’ll need to learn how to stop drifting. Remember that it’s not all about the cash, though that’s nice to have. You must be willing to move your life to your priorities.

The next step is learning how to discern what your priorities are? There are things that must be done during the week. What do you need to do?

You might be like a traditionalist in organization, or perhaps you have your own unique way of arranging priorities the way you like.

One thing is for certain, you’re going to be making sacrifices, and soon your family will get it.

3. Analyze defeats, consider doing better next time.

Everyone experiences defeats, but with each one, it gives you an opportunity to do better next time round. So, the next time you experience a defeat, what are you going to do about it?

Think about all the sporting champions, or the big NYT bestselling authors. They had defeat after defeat, but they kept on going. Even Olympic gold medallists experience hundreds of defeats before they win big. If they had given up without any goals, they’d be flipping burgers.

It’s important to review your defeats, move on, and do better next time round. Never accept defeat as the final outcome—take it as the opportunity that it is.

4. Open your mind to receiving.

You’ll need to learn how to accept the gifts you’re given. This means being open to receiving. Remember that the devil will do his best to block you. This begins by accepting compliments that people give you.

Do you respond by offering up some sort of negative excuse? Or, do you just say thank you? It’s important to receive a compliment. Don’t add a caveat at the end. “But I’m still working on that.” “It’s not finished yet.”

Instead, accept the compliment. “Thanks, I’ve been working my butt off”, or “I appreciate you noticing”. Encourage people to continue the compliments, otherwise, they may stop them.

5. The best asset is time.

Everything takes time. When you’re really focused, time can move quickly. It’s needed to move your life forward. But be certain to budget your time so that none is wasted. After all, you can’t brag about spending eight hours a day on Facebook, but you can brag about writing a business book or managing a business for eight hours a day.

During the day, consider where you are spending your thoughts? See point 1. above as it’s tied in. Are you on social media where you are arguing with someone that you will never see again?

Or, are you spending your time living with purpose? Budget your time wisely.

6. When you’re not focused, opposition is the filler.

In order to be focused you’re going to need to exchange energy for value. Where exactly is your awareness? It can be frustrating to experience when your family members, close friends, and even colleagues can’t see the focus, path, or vision that you may have. They may even oppose it.

These negative thoughts can lead to destructive thoughts on both sides. They can even affect your relationship with others. This can lead you back to where you started, such as giving up on your dreams of running a small business, only to take a low-paying full-time job. Soon, you’re back where you started. You’re resentful, and your family is still resentful since you’re back to being unmotivated and bringing in a crappy income. This is exactly what you don’t need at this point in your life.

It’s important to have thoughts that don’t hold you back. This doesn’t mean you can’t consider negative thoughts, but you shouldn’t let them affect you like they used to do in the past.

Anything that is against you is going to oppose your business goals. It can work against you in many devious ways, or it can also work for you.

How many times a day do you bribe yourself? I’ll head to the gym tomorrow, or, I’ll call my clients tomorrow. I’ll work on that part of my business tomorrow. At the end of the week, nothing has gotten done. What you need to do is drop the excuses, and start working harder right now.

This means turning off that opposition—or little voice in your mind—and begin doing things now. This is a whole part of being focused and aware.

7. Ask for help without begging.

There’s nothing wrong with asking for help. Everyone needs help from the universe. But it’s important to be confident with what you are asking for.

You may also act like you have already received it. This is a bit like that old adage, fake it before you make it”, yet not so extreme. You need to expect greatness. Yes, you deserve it.

Your success will eventually come. You need to decide right now that you will ask for help and success, and open yourself up to receiving it. You can make a note in your mind: I will ask for THIS. Then you can work your way towards that goal.

Consider what you need to do with achieving that goal. It begins with one small step. “I want to start my own business.” Then, you must look into buying your own website domain name, or a business license, or registering your new business name. These are tiny first steps, but they’ll move you closer to your dreams.

8. Acknowledge life is challenging and that’s okay.

One thing that we can all agree on is that life is hard. And it’s okay that it’s hard, as otherwise we’d all be intensely bored with our lives.

Stick with mastering your life. Remember that it’s all about how life occurs to you. You can be negative about events that happen to you, or you can take it as a learning opportunity and move on.

9. Don’t accept anything you don’t want.

If you have received something in your life that you didn’t want, that’s okay, you can change your mind. You can move in a different direction. You do have free will.

You can step out of the way, or sidestep it. You want to be definite in everything you do. There is no room for mediocrity here. If you have intention and purpose through every step of your life, you will eventually succeed.
